Biography

Nejc Lavrenčič was born in 1986 in Maribor (Slovenia). Although he was attracted to the stage and interested in music from a very young age, he did not begin to play the piano until the age of fourteen. In 2003 he passed the entrance examination for piano at the Secondary school for Music and Ballet (SGBŠ) in Maribor and entered the class of prof. Tatjana Dvoršak.

In 2006 he became also the protégé of the pianists Marina Horak and Saša Gerželj-Donaldson, who enriched his piano playing and broadened his musical spectrum.

He has participated in master-classes given by Saša Gerželj-Donaldson (Slovenia), Marina Horak (Slovenia), Terezija Cukrov (Croatia & USA), Martina Cukrov (Croatia & USA), Siavush Gadjiev (Italy & Slovenia), Arbo Valdma (Germany & Estonia) and others.

In the Slovenian Music Competition for Youth (TEMSIG 2005) Nejc received the 3rd prize in piano duo and in the 2006 International Piano Competition of the Conservatory Davorin Jenko in Belgrade, Serbia he received the 2nd prize as a soloist.

He has recorded for RTV Slovenia and played in concert halls like Union Hall in Maribor (Slovenia), Red Hall in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Belgrade Filharmony (Serbia), Mim – Music Instrument Museum in Brussels, Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Stainway & Sons Centre in Antwerp, Citta di Cividale del Friulli (Italy), Glazbeni zavod Zagreb (Croatia), Glazbena Matica Zagreb (Croatia), Eufrazys Basilic in Poreč (Croatia), National Gallery in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and others.

In 2007 he entered class of Aleksandar Madžar at the Koninkljik Conservatorium in Brussels (Belgium). In 2011 he became a student of Jan Michiels and finished his Master in 2012. Currently he is a 1st Master student of chamber music at KCB. In 2011 he started to receive a schoolarship of the Flemish Goverment.

As an ambassador of Slovenian culture – in October 2011 Nejc gave a recital, representing “European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012.”  By that occasion Belgium could hear for the 1st time piano music of Slovenian composers.

Nejc has been awarded with the »Dr. Roman Klasinc« Award for special achievements and creativity.

From 2010-2012 and 2012/2013 he was accepted to participate international Lied-masterclasses by Udo Reinemann and his guests (Peter Schreier, Julius Drake, Mitsuko Shirai, Hartmut Höll, Ursula Kryger, Konrad Richter, Helmut Deutsch, Christianne Stotijn, Jascha Nemtsov, Maria Bayo, Wolfgang Holzmair, Ann Murray, Michiel Tranchant, Jaroslav Mrazek, Joseph Breinl and Markus Hadulla).
